About the inauguration
The inauguration of the Adwa Victory Memorial, graced by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) and President Sahle-Work Zewde, was a momentous occasion steeped in solemn reverence and national pride. Located in the heart of Addis Ababa, within the historic locality of Piassa, this monumental event brought together a host of dignitaries, including the Speakers of the two houses, the Mayor of Addis Ababa, Adanech Abiebie, and numerous high-ranking government officials.
Against the backdrop of the newly unveiled memorial monument, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and President Sahle-Work Zewde laid a wreath of flowers, paying tribute to the valor and tenacity of the Ethiopian soldiers who secured victory against the Italian invaders in the historic Battle of Adwa of 1896. Majestically perched on 5 hectares of land, the Adwa Victory Memorial stands as a symbol of Ethiopia's resilience and the rallying cry that sparked worldwide resistance against colonial oppression.
